Artist Statement
“Civilization!” is an interactive sculpture. It is social commentary—serious and cerebral yet with comic overtones. The artwork is inspired by the artist’s fascination with found objects and their relevance to making artworks about our current society. Worthington sees similarities between computer circuit boards and aerial views of cities. Anthropomorphic elements of human form are incorporated into the body of the artwork and you will find “pre-civilization” dinosaurs hiding among the circuit boards. Within the sculpture, lights and electricity flow and pulsate. Pushing buttons on the sculpture reveal noises of modern civilization.
